This week's picks for Nice

Matt Hagen's rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is cut short by a crime boss, and a cutting edge treatment sends him spiraling into all-consuming revenge. Director James Watkins keeps the stakes personal and the momentum relentless, with Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie anchoring the chaos. It is playing in English in Nice and screening widely across the city, so it is the easiest kinetic ride to catch on a big screen.

Here is a fairytale with teeth: a ridiculed seaside fisherwoman, fed up with her small-minded neighbours, commissions herself a husband woven from wicker, and the whole village loses its mind with outrage and jealousy. Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård anchor a romance that is tender, mischievous, and gorgeously strange, the kind of film you will still be grinning and arguing about over a late drink. At 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.4 on IMDb, it is a warm, witty invitation to fall for the misfits.

Forgotten Island is a bright animated adventure about two best friends swept through a mysterious portal to the fantastical island of Nakali, where they race to escape before they forget each other forever. Rated PG, it blends fantasy, comedy, and heart in a way that works for kids and adults alike, and it earns a strong 95% on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a warm 7.7 on IMDb. With plenty of screenings on offer this week, it is an easy choice for a relaxed family outing.
